Dr. Sekela Mwakyusa has 13 years’ experience in healthcare sector programming, working within the Government of Tanzania and in the Non-Governmental Organization sector.

Her current role as the Executive Director for AGPAHI entails oversight and overall leadership and implementation of the AGPAHI Strategic Plan. Dr Mwakyusa is the current Secretary of the AGPAHI Board of Directors.

Prior to joining AGPAHI in 2015, Dr Mwakyusa was the Country Director at Maryland Global Initiatives Tanzania (MGIT) and before that; she was a Country Program Manager for the same organization implementing the AIDS Relief Program in Tanzania.

Dr. Mwakyusa holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D) and Masters of Medicine - Pediatrics’ and Child Health (MMed Pediatrics and Child Health) degrees from Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences, Tanzania. She also has a Diploma in Health Systems Management from Galilee International Management Institute in Israel and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health specialization in Health Systems and Policy at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dr. Mwakyusa is passionate about the children and adolescent health. She is an active member of the Pediatric Association of Tanzania and the Immediate Past President of the association.
