Professor Eligius Lyamuya

Prof. Eligius Lyamuya joined the AGPAHI Board of Directors as a member since 30th December 2018 He is a registered Medical Doctor in Tanzania since 1988 and an academic member of staff (currently a retired Professor of Microbiology and Immunology) at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). He completed his MD and MMed (Microbiology and Immunology) at the University of Dar es Salaam in 1985 and 1991, respectively, and a PhD in Infectious Disease Control from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden in 2000.
He is a Fellow of the Tanzania Academy of Sciences (FTAAS) since 2013, Fellow of the College of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (FCPath ECSA) since 2014, and a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute since 2015. He was the Medical Officer of Bagamoyo District Hospital from 1986-1988 and after postgraduate training he became an academic member of staff at MUHAS since 1992. He has served in various administrative positions at MUHAS including Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology,
Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research in the School of Medicine,Director of Research and Publications, and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research and Consultancy affairs. He is currently an Editorial Consultant, Ethiopian Journal of Health Development; Editorial Advisory Board member, Tanzania Journal of Health Research, Editor in Chief of the Tanzania Medical Journal; and International Reviewer,
Egyptian Journal of Immunology. He is the current Secretary General of TAAS. He is an active researcher, his research interests being largely in the area of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections; Molecular Epidemiology of bacterial pathogens; Antimicrobial chemotherapy; Immunology of infectious diseases; and promotion of research ethics.
